Release Date: 19 May 2025 | Published Date: 17 May 2025
“Just for Fun”—the new single from Greg Williams’ acclaimed “Stone On Stone”—all crunchy guitars, sneering vocal and Vox organ stabs over an electric soup of fuzz-tone guitars and glam-slam drums, sounds just like its name… FUN!
From the opening tom-tom salvo, fuzz feedback and the 1-2-3-4 count… to the knowing swagger of the lyrics… and the star-turn on Vox organ by The Attractions’ Steve Nieve… it’s a 3:10 dose of undiluted Aussie rock.
““Just for Fun” may remind you of the crunchy guitar sounds of The Hoodoo Gurus.”—Pure Pop 4 Now People (Pittsburgh, PA, USA).
“A mighty song. I had a good time recording this.”—Steve Nieve (Elvis Costello and The Attractions).
His role stemmed from a dressing room chat when Greg supported Steve’s Australian tour. “I told him the producer suggested a ‘Steve Nieve’ keyboard part and he said: ‘I’ll do it!’”
The new double single, out on 19/5/25, comes with another Steve Nieve masterclass: an alternative mix of album track “Images of Love” that peels away the baggy-tinged rock bed to reveal his multi-layered keyboard ‘orchestra’ topped by shimmering Beatle-esque harmonies.
“Stone On Stone”, released late last year, gathered local and international airplay and featured in multiple best albums of 2024 and end-of-year favourites lists.
★ “Relentless songwriting mastery… a tour de force with echoes of Australian greats Paul Kelly and Grant McLennan.”—Chipper Saam, Indie Pop Takeout (USA).
★ “The melodic grace and vocal of the late Grant McLennan.”—Henry Lipput, Pure Pop 4 Now People (USA).
★ “Definitely a contender for album of the year or any year for that matter.”—Wally Salem, The Beautiful Music (Canada).
★ “The album is a hidden gem, made with love, wit, care and compassion… one of the best indie guitar albums of the year. Comparison points… The Triffids and The Go-Betweens.”—Rob Morgan, A Goldfish Called Regret (South Wales).
